We had so much fun celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend with our moms, grandmothers, kids, and grandkids! So much fun, in fact, that we want to continue the celebration by sharing some of our favorite recipes that have been passed down from our mothers and grandmothers. These recipes bring many great memories to mind for each of us, and we hope that you are also able to create sweet memories in the years to come with these recipes in hand!

Lemon Ice Box Pie from Larissa Roach
This was my Great Grandmother Lucy’s recipe. She passed it down to my mom because it’s my dad’s favorite pie, and my mom passed it down to me. This recipe has even been featured in a cookbook called At My Grandmother’s Table.
BBQ Chicken Sauce from Linda Denton
This delicious barbecue chicken sauce was always a family favorite and prepared at least once a month with the entire family gathered around the table. My mom passed away in 2015, leaving this and many other GREAT family recipes compiled in a book by my dad. Great with green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet tea, and biscuits. Be sure to dip your biscuits in the sauce!
White Chicken Enchiladas from Heather Warfield
This was my mom’s go-to recipe for anyone and everyone in our church who had a baby, surgery, or any other casserole-necessitating life event. Now that I’m the one signing up for meal trains, I find myself reaching for this same recipe time and time again. Mother knows best, so I don’t even bother searching for a recipe good enough to replace this classic!
Shrimp Creole from Leigh Ann Dans
Every Christmas Eve we all look forward to having my mom’s Shrimp Creole. I’m originally from Louisiana, so learning how to make a roux, training up your taste buds to take it spicy, and eating shrimp is all part of life! This recipe is my absolute favorite dish that mom makes, and to be honest, we’ve all had a hard time making it taste exactly like hers (why is that?). She usually makes a big pot of rice to put in the bottom of each bowl, then pours a large helping of the creole over the top. The meal is not complete without a big loaf of french bread cut into thin slices, brushed with garlic butter, then toasted in the oven until crispy. AYEEE! Y’all, this is good stuff!
Good Pancakes from Michelle Hicks
Most mornings were breakfast on the run just trying to get everyone to school on time. I’m sure most moms can relate! But on mornings when there was a little more time (and all the ingredients) we had good pancakes. And that it what we always called them and the words at the top of the recipe card to this day!
Spinach Orange Salad from Michelle Hicks
At great salad anytime of the year! But really wonderful after a hot summer day if you eat while sitting outside by a pool!
Mom’s Classic Spaghetti Sauce from Chris Adams & Mom Roberta McPherson
Like much of mom’s food, this just a “dump and taste” kind of recipe! I’ll try to give an idea of what I use.
Dirt Pudding from Emily Ellis
Any time my mom had to bring a dessert to a party or a church function, this was it. It’s super simple and super yummy. As an adult, this is still my go-to dessert recipe. I’ve never heard of a single person who didn’t like it!
Mamaw’s Chicken and Spaghetti & Mamaw’s Red Apples from Becky Loyd
When I was growing up, we would go eat Sunday lunch at my grandmother’s house at least one time a month. And the dish I remember most is her Chicken and Spaghetti, which was always served with Red Apples and garlic bread. As recipes that are passed down tend to be, this is not written in the way traditional recipes are, so you’ll have to forgive the informal tone and not-so-precise measurements!
Broccoli Casserole from Amy Lowe
This casserole was a staple in our house growing up, and it was our go-to recipe to bring to a potluck meal. It made us feel better that it is called broccoli casserole but what really makes it great is all the cheese, sour cream, and chips that are in it!
Caramel Cake Squares from Mary Margaret Collingsworth
These are SO yummy! They aren’t the prettiest dessert, but you won’t have any to take home with you if they go to a party. My mom makes these when we have company, and they’re always a big hit!
Shugie’s Chicken Casserole from Mary Margaret Collingsworth
This is a family favorite! My mom makes it when we’re all together. It’s just plain delicious, and mom calls it “old faithful” because it always turns out great! It freezes well, and is great to take to someone who needs a good meal.
Crepes
My sister and I started making crepes for our mama on Mother’s Day a few years ago, and it’s one of her favorite treats! Crepes are quick and easy to make, but they feel fancy enough that you’ll want to put on lipstick for brunch. Keep them sweet with toppings like berries, banana slices, drizzled Nutella, and toasted coconut, or make them savory with smoked salmon and cream cheese or sharp cheddar paired with tart green apples.
Chocolate Gravy from Candye Cochran
Delicious on hot biscuits or pancakes! (Might even pair well with Michelle’s “Good Pancakes” recipe above!)
Debbie’s Dessert from Darilynn Keith
Grandmother’s Orange Cake from Kaitlin Redmond
My sweet Grandmother, Marie Petty, made this cake for every special occasion, birthday, holiday, etc. Although her life on this earth ended many years ago, this has been a YUMMY reminder of her precious self and the love one felt instantly by being in her presence.
We hope these recipes bring you as much joy as they’ve brought us over the years!
