With school starting back, we wanted to tie this month’s Ministry Spotlight to the back to school season. A couple of years ago, we heard about Undivided The Movie at a Q Commons event. Watch the trailer below:
We love that this movie isn’t just a documentary. We haven’t even seen the whole movie. We love that it is a movement compelling churches to get involved with their local schools. As they state on the website for the movie, “For church + school partnerships to work, we have to get rid of the perception that they’re only for well-resourced churches helping under-resourced schools. The reality is that all schools have some need.”
Some of our churches in Nashville do this. We partner with schools around the corner to provide tutoring, winter coats, uniforms, teacher breakfasts, and more. We’re involved in the lives of the kids in our church’s backyard so that we may also bring the gospel to their parents and teachers.
This month is the perfect time to start a school and church partnership. Look around for the schools closest to your church campus (some of you may even meet in a school!) and talk with the principal and with your pastor. Find out ways your church can help. It may be painting walls on a weekend or it may be hosting a fall festival. Get creative! The important thing is to show the love of Jesus to your community.
Does your church partner with a local school? What ways do you help each other?
