Lifeway Women has a new Women’s Ministry Specialist, and it’s a good time for you to get to know her and her heart for women.
Kelly King was named the new specialist last fall and is looking forward to training women leaders, whether they are leaders in the church, the home, or the marketplace. She was previously the Women’s Missions and Ministries Specialist for the Baptist General Convention, a post she held for more than 11 years. Prior to her denominational role, she was the Women’s Ministry Director at her church, Council Road Baptist, located in the Oklahoma City metro.
Here are a few questions Kelly recently answered for us to help you get to know her better.
Lifeway Women: Tell us about your family.
Kelly King: I’ve been married to my best friend, Vic, for more than 28 years, and we have two young adult children, Conner and Courtney. Courtney got married this summer to a young man she’s dated for several years, but we’re glad Gaige is now officially part of the family. We also have two Yorkiepoos, Molly and Emma, who are the real royalty of the King household.
LW: How did you get involved in women’s ministry?
Kelly: Like most women in ministry my age, this calling was a bit of a surprise! I’ve been involved in discipling women since I was in college and have always loved being a learner of God’s Word and a teacher of God’s Word. I’ve watched the Lord open doors throughout my life, and I’ve always been obedient to say “yes” when I knew it was the next step.
LW: What’s the hardest part of moving to Nashville?
Kelly: Oklahoma is home, and I’ve never lived anywhere else. Leaving my family, my church family, and a wonderful job was not easy, but God has directed each step. I’m confident that this new assignment is part of His plan. Besides, Nashville is an awesome city, and Lifeway is a wonderful company!
LW: What is something people don’t know about you?
Kelly: It’s always a surprise when people find out that I play the piano. In fact, it was almost my major in college. My skills aren’t what they used to be, but playing the piano is a great stress reliever.
LW: If you could have any other job, what would you like to do?
Kelly: I’ve always had a secret desire to run for political office. I’ve been approached and encouraged in the past, but I would much rather spend my time helping women put God’s Word into their lives than be a policymaker. After this past election year, I’m relieved God didn’t put that calling on my life!
Kelly will be training women at events like YOU Lead and Women’s Leadership Forum. We are excited to welcome her into the Lifeway Women family!
