Welcome back! We hope this first week of study helped you see the “why” behind our worship. We know God will continue to show you through this study how we worship in different seasons of our lives.
If you have any questions about how this study works, we’ve answered most of them here.
Catching up? That’s okay! We’ll leave the videos up until August 15, 2017. After that time you can purchase the video sessions here.
Questions to answer in your group or in the comments below:
- How do we resemble God? How do we not? (page 18)
- What are some of your nicknames? Tell us the story behind one of them. (page 20)
- What stood out to you about the covenants in Day Four?
Before we get back together, complete Week Two: The Desert (pages 34-65) in your Bible study book. We’ll meet back here next week!
1 – We resemble Him in His likeness only, we are not perfect as He is – no matter how hard we may try to be or pretend to be!
2 – Kare Bear, Jean Bean, Bean-o, Sissy, MeMe…My Aunt always called me MeMe (never my real name unless she was mad, then it was KERRI JEAN!) because when I was a baby I would stand at the crib with my arms up saying “Me! Me!” wanting to be picked up. She is gone now and it’s a sweet memory.
3 – Day Four reminded me again that regardless of my striving and deep in the heart of my hopelessness and the weakness of my faith, HE has promised to keep His Covenant with me. I may fail, but He place no conditions on offering His Grace and Salvation to a failure like me.
1) I think that when it says we are made in His image means that we look like God. That’s what comes to my mind. Also, we represent Him here on Earth by obeying and serving Him so we do the things He would like us to do so others may see and do the same. No matter how hard we try though, we will never be perfect and righteous like Him. Which is a good thing because if we were perfect, we wouldn’t need Him. I need Him!
2) Cha-Cha. Long story short, my Aunty teased the way my name is spelled. It’s pronounced with a “sha” sound but she pronounced it with a “cha” sound. It followed me through my life. I was embarrassed when I was younger but am no longer.
3)God was the initiator in all the covenants probably because he’s the only one that can keep his promises.
It’s funny how several of the names that embarrassed me as a kid are sweet memories now. 🙂
1.*created in HIS image. *we are not perfect.
2. Lee lee, love bug
3. New covenant, it applies to a future, hope.
1. In his image. We fall short and sin.
2. My name is pretty sure as is (Tia) but some of my family calls me T. On a more serious note, one that is more personal is “worthless.” Growing up my moms ex husband would often times tell me and my sister that we were worthless and would never amount to anything. I’ve grown a lot since then and don’t struggle with it as much anymore but from time to time I let it seep back into my heart and believe the lies.
3. Sadly I didn’t make it to Day Four yet, but I will!
Isn’t it amazing how the names that we know to be untrue are so hard to forget? You are worth so much to God!!!
I had a bully in high school that sat behind me every year for the 4 years I attended. He did it to torment me. My last name was Wright so he called me Wrong. Every. Single. Day. It’s amazing how a little word can hurt your self-confidence. These words, of course, are lies the enemy wants us to believe. You are a beautiful creation of God. Formed by God, loved by God, and cherished by God. Don’t believe the lies of the enemy. God made you perfect in every way.
You’ll love it when you do get the chance to look at it! You’ll be reminded how loved and valued you are to your Heavenly Father. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. This kind of study will help push those lies out the door and fill your mind with God’s truth.
Hello everyone,
1. our image/likeness – as we are made in His image, love and strength: evilness, unrighteousness, unforgiveness
2. Cookie, I used to get caught in the cookie jar as a child; Tish (short for tissue paper) because my cousins had a pedestal like toilet paper holder that I loved to play with. SMC – Sister Mary Clarence – this name was given to me by my co-workers because my two responses when someone complains or has something contrary to say or is just going through “a day” I say “let’s pray and fast”. My dearest friends and family call me Cookie – but most know me by Tish and those seeking a word from the Lord call me SMC
3. I love how dedicated, compassionate, loving, faithful and just wonderful God is – He seeks after us, He longs after us – for a relationship with us even when we are unfaithful and run from Him and blatantly sin.
1. We can think, love, make choices, etc. To me in his image means more inside then out.
2, Wormy is a special nickname my cousins gave me because I was the smallest but very active,
3. God wants a relationship with us. I feel like covenants were a way that He feels our human and broken hearts can process how much.
1. We resemble God because we are created in His image. We were created; He has always been. We are not all perfect nor all powerful, but He is.
2. My nickname in high school was E-Webb since I needed a nickname for the back of my cross country shirt and a friend created it from my first and last names.
3. The new covenant since Jesus forgives his people.
1. The Creator made us creative; we are triune as He is but in a different way — we are body, soul, spirit–He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit; He is Perfection, and we are not; 2. I don’t have a nickname! 3. God’s intent to mankind has always been to bless us because He loves us, and the covenants were always initiated by Him – He always provides ways to RESTORE us! What unfailing love!
I deem thee “C-Hawk”! You now have a nickname. 🙂 😉
Ha Ha….and I do love watching the Seahawks!!!
Perfect!! 😂
1. We resemble God in that we are capable of love, forgiveness, and creativity. However, we are only capable of this because of the grave and the gifts that he gives us. He, on the other hand, is the creator of love.
2. When I was in gym class in high school, I was given the nickname “Bruiser” during our volleyball unit–because I was the only one who couldn’t get the ball over the net! I really lliked the kids in the class, though, and I k ew they didn’t say it to be offensive. It was a nickname that I enjoyed and that stuck throughout high school.
3. What stood out to me about the covenants was that they all were initiated by God. We need him–and yet he is the one who approaches us with the promise.
I meant “grace”‘ not “grave”! Fat fingers! 😉
Hi, How do we resemble God? we are in his image. how do we not? we were born into sin. not really a nick name, Debbie. The LORD intends to keep his promise to those whom he has chosen.
