More and more of us are feeling better about getting out and about these days, and what better way to ease back into going out again after the height of a global pandemic than by going on several fun outdoor dates! Check out our list of outdoor activities to do with your special someone this summer and fall.
- Go stargazing. Stargazing is a great date night activity that involves no cost at all! Drive a little outside of the city so you can see the stars clearly without the city lights. Maybe you could even bring a constellation map with you. (Don’t forget to wish upon a shooting star!)
- Participate in local sporting events (football, soccer, and so forth). Whether you’re tailgating before a football game at your local college, joining a pickup soccer league, or watching a professional hockey game, sporting events are always exciting events.
- Enjoy a progressive picnic! Pick a different restaurant for your favorite appetizer, entree, and dessert. Make sure to get the items to go. Grab plates, napkins, utensils, a blanket, pillows, and some candles. Set up in your backyard or local park and enjoy!
- Play mini-golf, Top Golf, or Frisbee golf. Are you the type of couple who loves a competitive date night? Try your hand at one of these golf-themed activities and see who comes out with the best score.
- Fly a kite. Next time it’s a bit windy outside, go buy a kite and take it to a nearby park or your backyard. Or you could try making your own kite by looking up instructions online!
- Go fishing. Embrace your inner outdoorsman and hike to the nearest fishing hole. You could even have a contest to see who can catch the biggest fish!
- Kayak or canoe down a river. Not only is kayaking a good date idea for a Saturday afternoon, but it’s also a great form of exercise!
- Visit the local farmers market. Support your local farmers! Farmers markets have a great selection of fruits and vegetables to bring home for dinner, and you can also grab a yummy lunch from a food vendor while you’re there.
- See a drive-in movie. Catch the newest summer blockbuster at your local drive-in movie theater. Don’t forget the blankets, pillows, and bug spray!
- Have a romantic picnic for two at a park or nearby lake. Bring a large, soft blanket and pack a tasty lunch. Charcuterie board and heart-shaped cookies, anyone?
- Attend Shakespeare in the Park (or other park show). Many big cities have excellent outdoor theater performances you can attend. Make sure to check if you need to reserve tickets ahead of time!
- Go camping and have a campfire. A great inexpensive weekend getaway, camping is a good way to get closer to nature and away from the screens. Pack some hotdogs and the ingredients for s’mores, and you’re all set for a tasty campfire dinner!
- Try a new flavor of ice cream at a local place. Maybe you could sample the most unique-sounding flavor on the menu!
- Go to an outdoor concert. If you appreciate live music, this is the perfect date night activity for you! Check out a new band to hear how nice music sounds in the open air.
- Go for a sunny afternoon bike ride. Get moving and take a bike ride down your neighborhood street or head over to a park that allows bicycles!
- Take a downtown stroll. Taking a nightly stroll in the city can be a relaxing and enjoyable evening. If you live close enough, try walking to a new restaurant for dinner!
